Since I do work with fixing internet connections, I have worked with most brands of routers that are out there. This will be a short and sweet post, because I am very tired and I have to get up early for work.

Personally, I think Cisco, Linksys is one of the top brand routers you can buy today. All my networking equipment has been Cisco, Linksys brand devices. They are very easy to install for the average computer user (I say average, but there are a lot of people out there that don't know squat) and many advanced features as well for the more savvy network users. Linksys routers are very durable devices. What I mean by this is that they don't brake after having it for just a couple of months.

Netgear is the other top dog router out there. The simplicity of the setup of these routers is good for the average user, but not so many advanced settings. Most routers will have basic mac address list, WEP, WPA Personal, WPA2, and other ways to specify how the private IP's are ranged per device on the network. Although, Netgear keeps it pretty simple. I consider these routers best for average users.

Now personaly, the worst brand routers you can pick are D-Link and Belkin. I don't have much to say about D-Link routers because I have always had issues with them. If you think other wise, then good for you. As for the Belkin routers, they just plain suck. I can't tell you how many times someone will call in having problems setting up their Belkin router. They are not user friendly and not very durable.

There you have it in a nut shell. The Cisco, Linksys and the Netgear routers are your best bet for home networking wired or wireless.

Windows Games

I know I promised to make a list of free games, but I have been busy with family stuff. Work has also been kicking my butt lately. I find it interesting that most people use a security program other than what microsoft already provides with its operating system. McAfee is the worst internet security program out there. Half the time pc users are wondering why their internet isn't working and it is a firewall or security issue with another program.

Anyways, here is a list of some open source windows based games. I will post another entry with linux based open source games at another date. I came across a page that has a whole list of open source windows based games. It list everything form first person shooter to board games. ENJOY! If you know some links that are not on this list please e-mail them to me so I can post them. I will be sure to give you credit for the link as well.

Open Source Games for Windows

Usefull FREE Programs/Utilities

These are all links to free programs. The project is geared towards designing a non controller based gaming. This new feature will be more interactive for the players much like the wii, but only without any controllers. All games will be played based on player action recognition. For example a players facial recognition, voice, or physical action. It will be as if the tv had a mind of its own.

A Summery to the Laser Article

The photonic disruptor dose not give a jolt of any kind to the victim. One of the services is an online file back-up accounts. I am sure you have come across ones such as photobucket.com or snapfish.com for picture storage and mozy.com for free data back-up (2 gigs). When you create your own account to which you store your data or pictures is quite safe security wise. I know on photobucket.com that once you upload your pictures you are sharing them with the world. Anyone can go to photobucket and search or browse the database of pictures. That is the only downside to photobucket.

The Internet is definately an advocate of these services. It also brings out community based software or open source software communities. Linux destributions are a big part of what open source is all about. The best part about open source software is that it s free, at least most of it is free. Because of the many linux operating systems out there Mandriva and Ubuntu have now created the first online data storage for linux distrobutions. Since I have not used either online back-up system, I can't say whether they are both secure for personal data. The link "online data storage for linux distrobutions" is an article about the linux based online data storage and there are some comments in regards to the security of using the back-up system.

I can say that Mandriva and Ubuntu are the two easist linux distrobutions I have ever used for a linux os. I prefer Ubuntu over Mandriva for the linux newbie. If you have any questions in regard to Ubuntu and it compatability click here. If you have any further questions about linux feel free to e-mail me or go to the ubuntu forums.

Remeber surf safely and securely.

Laser Pointers That Pack A Punch

Wicked Lasers has announced their new product called Photonic Disruptor, which has been featured on Discovery Channel’s “Future Weapons” and is said to overwhelm a targets vision, but without permanent damage. Just think if a teacher used one of these babies in the class room... I don't think the students in that teacher's class room would cause to much trouble and they might all pay attention too. Suposedly these gadgets can only be sold to law enforcement and military only. Although, I think it is a sweet looking keyboard not to mention the cool features it has for playing games and for certain applications. You can customize some of the buttons on this baby for the layout of the keyboard. Your customize layouts are stored on an SD memory stick. It does need its own power adapter and connects to your PC via USB I believe.

Anyways! You should check it out for yourself. It is a pretty sweet little gadget but kinda on the expensive side. Hopefully, the price will go down considering the economy really sucks right now. But here is the web site for you to check it out and drool over.

Optimus Maximus keyboard
